BACKGROUND

The Policy and Plans Branch came into existence in Dec 2008. Until then, it was a directorate called the Directorate of Plans under the Office of the Chief of the Air Staff. The Branch is the precedent branch of Headquarters Nigerian Air Force and is responsible for strategic planning and management through the interpretation of national policies as well as coordination of policy formulation and implementation.

Directorates under the Policy and Plans Branch

• Directorate of Policy

  The Directorate of Policy (DOPOL) is the precedent directorate of the Pol & Plans Branch. It is responsible for reviewing the NAF Force Structure, updating the NAF doctrine, and interpretation and harmonisation of policies. It is headed by the Director of Policy (DOPOL) who is a pilot with an established rank of Air Vice Marshal (AVM).

• Directorate of Plans

  The Directorate of Plans (DOPLANS) is responsible for the formulation and coordination of all routine plans and programmes of the NAF. It is headed by a regular officer with an established rank of Air Commodore (Air Cdre).

• Directorate of Museums and Archives

  The Directorate of Museums and Archives (DOMA) is responsible for the documentation and preservation of NAF history, as well as the maintenance of museums and archival materials and artefacts. It is headed by a regular officer with an established rank of Air Commodore (Air Cdre).

• Directorate of NAF Transformation

  The Directorate of NAF Transformation (DNT) is responsible for the development of transformation strategies, management of transformation plans and processes, as well as monitoring and evaluating transformation programmes and activities at all levels of command and sister Services. The Directorate is headed by a regular officer with an established rank of Air Commodore (Air Cdre).
