AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING BRANCH

BACKGROUND

The Aircraft Engineering Branch is responsible for the formulation of policies on all aircraft engineering issues, armament, Ground Support Equipment and maintenance in support of Nigerian Air Force operations.


Directorates under the Aircraft Engineering Branch
  • Directorate of Air Engineering

    The Directorate of Air Engineering (DAE) is the precedent directorate in the Aircraft Engineering Branch. It is responsible for initiating and monitoring the implementation of all aircraft engineering and maintenance policies in the NAF. It is headed by an aircraft engineer with an established rank of Air Vice Marshal (AVM). .

  • Directorate of Armament

    The Directorate of Armament (DOARM) is to initiate and monitor the implementation of policies for the overall supervision, co-ordination and maintenance of the entire armament, and small arms and ammunition (8AA) stores in the NAF. The Directorate is headed by an armament officer with an establishment rank of Air Vice Marshal (AVM).

  • Directorate of Production

    The Directorate of Production is responsible for formulating policies in liaison with DR&D on design, development and production of aircraft and its accessories, including other aeronautical equipment such as UAVs. The directorate also oversees the modification of aircraft spares/components and allied ground support equipment. Additionally, it is to participate in accident/defect investigation of aircraft/aeronautical equipment, as well as standardisation activities relating to joint Services specifications and national standards. The Directorate is headed by an engineering officer with an established rank of Air Commodore (Air Cdre).

  • Directorate of Material and Systems Management

    The Directorate of Materials and Systems Management (DMSM) formulate policies for proper monitoring and recording of consumption trends of all aircraft types in the NAF. It is headed by an aircraft engineering officer with an established rank of Air Commodore (Air Cdre).

  • Directorate of Aircraft Quality Assurance

    The Directorate of Aircraft Quality Assurance was established as a directorate under the Aircraft Engineering Branch at HQ NAF. The purpose of the DAQA is to ensure quality control of NAF aircraft, aircraft engines, air armament, avionics, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and allied equipment during design, development production, ,modification, overhaul and repair.
